Characteristics: Native, perennial, cool season forb to 3.25 feet. Stem 4-angled, usually clustered from perennial crown, erect or ascending, sparsely-densely hairy; leaves in whorls of 4, simple, usually hairy; inflorescences usually 2-3 forked; flowers on distinct pedicels; fruits on distinct pedicels, bristly. Flowers June-August.
Plant community type: Primarily in wooded uplands. Also reported to be found in open uplands.
