Characteristics: Native, perennial, cool season forb to 4.0 feet. Stems 1-several, simple, rather slender; leaves on stem usually alternate, usually compound, usually 3-parted with terminal leaflet being the largest; flowers solitary; fruit is a crowded, spherical aggregation with stiff hairlike projections. Flowers April-October.
Plant community type: Wooded uplands and bottomlands. Also in wooded-open edge situations with predominant shade.
