Seasons of significant use: fall
Characteristics: Introduced, annual, warm season grass to 8.5 feet. Leaves variable depending on variety; infloresences highly variable, ranging from a very dense, compact panicle to a loose, open panicle; fruit is a somewhat round caryopsis, usually rusty colored, maturing summer-fall depending on variety. Flowers summer-fall depending on variety.
Plant community type: Primarily in cultivated fields. Rarely escapes along roadsides, ditches, etc. Usually does not persist.
Comments: Deer primarily consumed the seed heads
