Seasons of significant use: summer (for Desmodium spp. complex)

Characteristics: Native, perennial, warm season forb to 6.0 feet. Stems simple or branched; leaves alternate, pinnately trifoliate compound; leaflets 3, ovate-acuminate, essentially glabrous on both surfaces with exception of hairs along midrib and veins, stipules present; stipules slenderly and obliquely ovate-attenuate, striate; inflorescence racemose-paniculate; fruit is a 1-7 jointed loment, margins covered with short, hooked hairs, surfaces less so. Flowers July-September.

Plant community type: Rich wooded uplands and bottomlands.
