Tandem Disk
(Disk, Disk Harrow, Plow)

The tandem disk gets its name from the two rows of disk gangs. The front gang of disk-shaped blades throws soil to the outside, and the rear gang throws soil back to the inside.

This implement is used for tillage. In some instances, it is used as a primary tillage tool and in others as a secondary tillage tool, i.e., after a chisel plow, moldboard plow or offset disk.

It is useful for cutting up residue, breaking up clods, smoothing the soil surfaces and incorporating herbicide. It is usually unacceptable for final seedbed preparation because it leaves the soil too fluffy.

This picture is of a pull-type disk, but smaller disks often are three-point mounted.
