Seasons of significant use: spring, fall (for Vicia spp. complex)

Characteristics: Native, annual, cool season forb. Stems branched, reclining or climbing, to 2.5 feet; leaves alternate, pinnately compound, usually with 4-6 leaflets, usually terminating in branched or unbranched tendrils; flowers usually solitary, on conspicuous peduncle; fruit is relatively flat, dehiscent pod. Flowers May-June.

Plant community type: In open areas. Often occurs along roadsides and ditches, and in mowed areas.
