Characteristics: Introduced, naturalized, annual, cool season forb to 1.0 foot. Stems erect or decumbent; leaves opposite, simple, sessile, hairy on both sides; inflorescences are dense clusters at tips of dichotomous branches; flower petals white, deeply notched; fruit is subcylindrical capsule. Flowers February-May.
Plant community type: Open uplands and bottomlands, and edge situations, especially on sites with soil disturbance. Somewhat shade tolerant.
Comments: A common "weed" found in gardens, flower beds. etc.
